Grandma would be proud!
While going through some things in my kitchen yesterday, I stumbled upon my Grandma's recipe for bread pudding! Once I found the recipe, I just couldn't get it out of my head! So what did I do? I read the recipe, then quickly got the ingredients out of my cupboards (I was lucky I had the ingredients, because I really didn't want to go to the grocery store). The result of my efforts was the most delicious bread pudding ever! I want to spread the "deliciousness" so here is the recipe:
Grandma's bread pudding:
2 slightly beaten eggs
2 1/4 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups 1 inch day-old bread cubes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Combine eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in bread cubes. stir in brown sugar and raisins. Pour mixture into 8x1 3/4 inch baking dish. Place pan in larger shallow pan on oven rack; pour hot water into larger pan 1 inch deep. Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes or till knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Makes 6 servings
Sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!
