Birthday Philosophy

  My grandpa quietly turned 89 years young yesterday!  I say quietly because he doesn't mention to anyone that it's his birthday.  My brother spent all day with him yesterday and didn't even realize it was his birthday.
  last night after dinner, my husband and I called my grandpa to wish him "happy birthday" and the first words out of my grandpa's mouth were "thanks, you know I used to love you and now I don't (followed by a little evil chuckle)", of course he was joking.
  He quickly reminded me that he doesn't have birthdays.  I asked him "why?"
he replied : "Birthdays make you older, I don't feel older, so I don't have them", "can't get older if you don't have birthdays", "age is just a number anyway, it doesn't represent how I feel".
  I replied:  "I think I'll adopt that philosophy, I don't want to age so I'll stop having birthdays too!"
  He replied:  " That's right!  Don't pay attention to the number!"
 
  By the way, as you can probably tell, my grandpa is a lot younger than his 89 years!

New Territory

I am embarking on a new frontier. No, I'm not talking about outer space, I'm talking about my new job. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am the newest employee of my brother's company. A few weeks ago I became just his "web designer/webmaster", I've designed a few pages already but am not done by far.
Yesterday my brother/boss called me all excited about his "potentially big, new idea!" He was so excited! After I said "hello" a voice that sounded as excited as a child on Christmas morning said "I have this potentially big new idea and just have to run it by you!" My response: "okay... what is it?" My brother said "Other than working on the website, I am developing a new product, and once it is developed, I want to ship the product and boxes for it to your house. Once you receive them, you put the boxes together and ship the product to fulfill orders. Oh, and also I need you to design another website when your done with the first one! Okay?"
A part of me wanted to say "are you crazy?!" But I didn't say it, instaead I said "You want me to design another website, and turn my house into a shipping center?" He said "yes, because I'm in California and will do western U.S. shipping. I want you to do the midwest and eastern U.S. shipping on top of being my webmaster." I jokingly asked him if he was going to install a conveyor belt in my family room and send me a forklift. He said "funny...no".
My brother's company has been successful since 1981, and I trust his business sense (I question his sanity at times, but he has good business sense!). I love my brother and am thankful that he gave me a job so I can work from home, which is perfect for me!
I like to take on new challenges so I'll see how this goes, I'm sure it will be fine. I know there's a "method to his madness"!

Lists

When New Years rolls around, I don't make "official" resolutions. The kind of resolutions I make are to myself (and are kept to myself). This year one of my little resolutions was to be more disciplined and less of a procrastinater. I make myself little lists every day, and check things off as they are done. The more important things are first on the list and so on.... Now I'm not perfect at it and the list isn't set in stone or anything, but I am proud to say that lately I have been at nearly 100% of list completeness! Nearly 100%, until yesterday! The second my hubby turned the key in his car's ignition I mean the second the car started, an odor that smelt in a weird way like burnt cinnamon arose from that darn car! I had a sinking feeling my "list" was going to go "out the window". After the smell and my husband pulling out of the driveway the phone call came. On the phone was my worried hubby telling me the car was making a loud "roaring" sound when ever he sped up and the smell was still lingering. I calmly told him I would look at his car when he got home from work (yes, I know more about cars than my husband). He was on his way to work, and after eating breakfast I started on my list. I wasn't even 1/2 way thru the first thing on my list when my phone rang yet again. Again, on his break, he was calling me and insisting his car needed to go and get fixed today "immediately"!
At that moment I realized I was going to have to meet him on his lunch break and switch cars with him, so I could take his to our mechanic. This also meant possibly spending hours at the repair shop waiting while the car was being worked on (list out the window!). I wasn't mad at my husband (he thought I was)I was mad at the situation, and the fact I wasn't going to get anything done. Why can't the car act up on my schedule darn it! I know that will never happen.
I was right, I spent many hours waiting in the car repair's waiting area. I did have some comic relief when a jerk of a customer with a really bad toupee accidentally spilt coffee on himself when he sat down! Karma! What pay back!
Anyway, many hours and $900.00 later (Ouch!)the car was finally fixed! I know "life happens" and things definitely don't always go as planned no matter how we much try. I know one thing, today's list is definitely going to get done, hopefully! My fingers are crossed!
